Green Hydrogen
In October 2021, Oracle Power announced its Green Hydrogen project in the Jhimpir Wind Corridor in Sindh, Pakistan. In March 2022, Oracle Power and His Highness Shaikh Ahmed Dalmook Al Maktoum formed a JV to develop the project on a fast-track basis.
The Project
The company has acquired 7,000 acres (28.3 km2) of land, located in the wind corridor in Jhimpir, which has an annual wind power generation capacity of more than 50,000 MW with average wind speeds of up-to 8 m/s. The Company has obtained an LOI from the Government, permitting the Company to produce 1.2 GW of hybrid power. The annual target output is approximately 55,000 tonnes of high purity Green Hydrogen or 275,000 tonnes of Green Ammonia, potentially using 400 MW capacity electrolysers, 500 MW wind and 800 MW solar plants, along with adequate battery storage.
Global Market
‘Green Hydrogen’ is hydrogen that is generated from renewable sources and is widely regarded as one of the most important energy sources to support the global transition to a carbon neutral future. In a net-zero world, demand for clean hydrogen could reach approximately 660 million metric tons in 2050, making up 22% of the global energy demand globally.
It is increasingly becoming a competitive fuel source across multiple sectors, including steel and fertilizer production, cars, power generation, shipping and aviation. The production of hydrogen is high on the agenda for many countries, including Japan, Korea, China, Europe and the MENA region. Pakistan has abundant renewable resources and land available. Our facility would be the country’s first, establishing Pakistan as one of the main Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia suppliers in the region.
